V-Day
02.12.06 (4:50 pm)   [edit]

Current Time: 7:49 PM

On Tuesday, my school is having an after-school Valentine's Day dance.  I'm not going.  I don't have a boyfriend, I don't feel like paying $2.50 for a ticket, and I'd much rather go home at a normal time and eat chocolate and read a book.  And pretend like there is nothing special about the certain day.

Oh, I'm not one of those depressed anti-Valentine's day people, I just think the whole premise has been commericalized and that it's not even a real holiday.  I'm soooo spirited xD

I'm too lazy to make a subject.. it's January!
01.24.06 (5:05 pm)   [edit]

Current Time: 7:53 PM

Or, even better, it's 2006!  I haven't been on since December.. so I was a little surprised to see everything all different-y.  The second half of 8th grade is upon the students, marking a new era.  Hehe, I sounded almost genuine there.  It's still lame middle school, and me still being the only person who seems to not type in chatspeak/internet slang.  And the fact that my emails actually have proper spelling and grammar bugs some of my friends.. which in turn bugs me.  Gosh, how could you get me off rambling like that?  I need a new paragraph.  I'm so off track.

There we go.  A nice, new fresh start, just like the beginning of the year.  See how easily I make connections like that?

Anyways, enough of that.  Since I haven't posted since before Christmas, I have to say this: I'm spoiled.  Not a spoiled brat, I am NOT a brat.  I'm just spoiled.  I got an iPod AND a laptop.  Both of which I am using right now.  I also got the 10th season of Friends (wewt completed collection!).  I haven't told anyone accept my uber-trustworthy best buddy about the laptop.  I don't want people thinking I'm rich.. cause I'm not.. my dad is.  But since most everyone else got an iPod in some form, I have no problem in telling about that.  However, I do get a lot of "Whoa, you got the regular kind?  I just got the (insert mini, nano, or shuffle here)"  Then I must respond with "Hey, it's only 30 gigs.. it only holds 7500 songs.. not like the better kind that holds like 10,000"

I'm eagerly awaiting summer, for two reasons.  I FINALLY get away from darnded Mr. Henderson, who was my history teacher last year and MOVED UP A GRADE so he's my teacher again this year (he's the worst teacher EVERRRRR!  and disorganized and stupid and racist! [REALLY]), and it marks the end of middle school.  Heeeellllloooo high school!  But I am a little worried... my whole life I've only heard/seen TV movies about high school, and that's where all the "bad stuff" happens.  But I'll get over it.

That should about cover it.  Bai.

The Countdown Begins
12.21.05 (3:49 pm)   [edit]
Current Time: 8:37 PM

Four days until Christmas.

Today was the last day of school before holiday break. Wow, and weren't we crazy. In geometry we had a "food day" where we pretended eating a bunch of food and drinking soda was educational by "measuring the surface area" of things like Cheez-Its and cookies. And since I have geometry in the morning (third period) we were all sugared up for the rest of the day. Not to mention all the candy from other sources (random gifts from friends, and the occasional celebratory piece from a teacher). But unfortunately, it wasn't a half day of any sort, it was a normal, full day. At least I get to stay up tonight ^_^

*That Holiday* Is Happening Again
12.17.05 (9:25 am)   [edit]
Current Time: 2:27 PM

WARNING: RANTING

I can't believe the big holiday is only 8 days away. I finished up my Christmas shopping today, and tomorrow I'm going over to my friend Julia's house and we're going to make craft things. Even the people who don't celebrate Christmas expect gifts! It's insane. It's like, wow, I didn't think you believed in Jesus, so why are you celebrating his birthday? It's very rude. I don't care what people say, Christmas is a religious holiday: why else would it have the word CHRIST in it?

I am Christian, though not as active as I'd like to be. But I'm active enough to be annoyed with the "war on Christmas". If someone said to me "Happy Hannukah" or "Happy Kwanza" or "Happy Snarflebarfle" I wouldn't care. But for some reason non-Christians go nuts and get all "offended" when someone says "Merry Christmas". Is it because we use merry instead of happy? Fine. Have it your way. Happy Christmas. So you know what? I'm offended you're offended!

So now we have all this Happy Holidays crap. Happy Holidays. Seasons Greetings. Joyful Wintertime. Enjoy your 100% taking the Christ out of Christmas extravaganza! But really, the worst one is X-Mas. X-MAS! It's like, "Oh, we're going to celebrate *that holiday* but we're only doing it so we can get free stuff." It's so commercialized, it's sickening! I mean, sorry to break it to you folks, but 80% of the population is Christian. (I'm referring to the United States here, not the world)

So you can go ahead and put up all your non-Christian decorations and signs around Christmas time, but let the manger scene be!

Work and Thanksgiving
11.19.05 (10:20 am)   [edit]
Current Time: 3:24 PM

I spent several hours yesterday on the computer doing my science project (which included a 6 page research paper) which is do on Tuesday. I've had about two months to do it, but you know me- procrastinator. Now that I'm finished with it, I feel like a huge weight has been lifted off my shoulders!

Now all I need to get done this weekend is cleaning the house. Durn Thanksgiving company  But THEN I'll be able to relax, until Monday. But then after THAT, and after Tues., I can enjoy the 5 day break for Thanksgiving. So fun.

Girl Scouts
11.07.05 (4:27 pm)   [edit]
Current Time: 10:28 PM

I'm in the 8th grade. I'm 13 years old. And I'm just now joining Girl Scouts. Strange, eh? I know they always say you're never too old to join, but they don't really mean it. Even though it goes from ages 5-17... they expect you to get into it when you're young. Maybe not 5, but like 8 or 9. When you're still elementary school age. Or, at least in September when it starts. It's November now, so it's like I'm starting 8 years and 2 months late.

I'm not really getting into it for the sake of joining and to learn different values and leadership and all that. I want to have something good to put on a college application someday. Something that'll make me seem more involved and willing to help the community. (Which I really do want to do, and which I am willing to do!)

Also, I have some friends in it that have been bugging me to join. Sounds like fun, so what the heck. Time to be a scout!

I've Got Mail
11.05.05 (2:30 am)   [edit]
Current Time: 8:31 AM (yeah I know, on a Saturday!)

I'm not talking about email, I'm talking about mail-mail. Like the kind you get through your mailbox. Does anyone send that stuff anymore? Well, they must still, because I actually got some. It was from this Who's Who thing. Apparantly I'm "pre selected" (because of my grades) to be in this book thing called "Who's Who". They choose some kids from across the country to be in that thing. So I just fill out some stuff of my interests and different activities/clubs I'm in, send it back, and they put me in a book. Woo hoo 8)

Halloweeeeeeeeeeeeeeen!
10.30.05 (6:31 am)   [edit]
Current Time: 12:25 PM

Halloween is tomorrow- and because there is an age limit to how old you can be to trick-or-treat, it is illegal for me to go asking for candy. I'm only 13! But oh well. I've had my fun. On Friday night, I went to an early-Halloween party. It was a lot of fun. I was dressed as a vampire (minus the fangs). I used the hair spray color stuff to color my hair black and purple (the same as my costume) and wore dark makeup. My friends said I looked like a goth :P

On another more academic note, I have yet to start my science project- or even researching for my paper on it, and it's due the day before Thanksgiving break (November 22). My topic is the effect of the brand of soda on how long it stays carbonated. Pretty much an excuse for me to drink the leftover soda. The problem is I'm having trouble finding the answers to my "secondary questions" for my research paper! :x

Schoo-el
09.27.05 (10:45 am)   [edit]
Current Time: 4:34 PM

I officially began 8th grade Tuesday, September 6th, 2005, at 7:25 AM. Well, since then, the teachers have had lots of fun with homework. I've had geometry (yes, I'm in geometry :D ) homework every day (even on weekends!) since the 2nd week of school. Already I've had 2 English projects (starting another one soon though, like tomorrow), 2 social studies projects, and by the end of the week we'll be starting the dreaded science projects. Not to mention the tons of quizzes and the tests I've had to take. And supposedly, we've barely scratched the surface!

The benefits: 8th graders rule the school. Sure, we may be the ones overloaded with homework and "SOL preparation" and "high school preparation" busywork, and we may also have to have no freedom because of the last year's 8th graders mistakes, but hey, we're the top of the totem pole! Teachers are going crazy (like my psycho social studies teacher has the A, B, or F system) trying to make everyone do well because last year's 8th graders flunked the SOLs and if we fail, that's 2 years and a row for my school. The school system has the right to clear out all the teachers/staff and replace them if they wanted if we failed, too, but they probably won't.

Ok, so those weren't really benefits. But WE'RE the ones leaving crappy baby middle school and going into HIGH SCHOOL next year! 8) We'll finally be plucked out of the fish bowl and tossed into the shark tank, where we'll all have plenty of room to grow and explore and get eaten alive.

Just so everyone who can guess the username and password and is reading this now but that I don't know at all knows, I'm not complaining (though it may seem like it). I'm glad that my school is trying to shape up its students, but the fact is no matter what they do the kids that don't care aren't going to ever care until they're outta school and realize that they're NOT going to ever be in the NFL or NBA and that NO colleges want them and that they have NO future, NO job, and NO place to live. That'll be their problem. But I appreciate the school for trying to help, but the needn't take out their craziness on good students like myself.

Baby-Sitting
08.27.05 (6:14 pm)   [edit]
Current Time: 12:13 AM (yeah, I know)

Got back from Maryland today. Yup, for a one week vacation, Ocean City. We stayed at a pretty sweet hotel instead of renting a condo. Tons of fun. No froggies this time. Yeah...

Anyways, right now my dad is at his bachelor party (he's getting remarried on Friday) and Karla (the bride) is at her bachelorette party. I'm babysitting Maya (Karla's 5 year old daughter) and Emma (my 8 year old almost cousin). They've been ok... or at least Emma has been. I tried to establish some basic rules, like no hitting, no yelling, no running, no throwing each other off the roof, no destroying the world, etc etc. Maya, of course, has already broken the first three a billion times over. She's an insane psycho toddler brat. I tried using simple discipline techniques (time out) to try and explain to her that she shouldn't hit or pull hair or scream or run around like a maniac. It didn't work, she didn't pay attention, she was being herself (a brat). Gosh, she is the most frustrating annoying little... ERGHEINAFINADflhanfiodhaf eqiokfasklfjdaoifheaipfha eifgad!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Anyways, I have to go in ten minutes. My computer-addicted brother (after being on for 7 hours, once we got back from OC he got on and wouldn't get off until I made him 20 minutes ago) is only letting me on for half an hour. Since he's older than me, HE should be the one having to babysit the two little devils, but he's too irresponsible and computer addicted to do anything. At least I'm getting paid 75 bucks. :D AND they're going to bed once I get off the computer. Lucky me!

Back Again!
08.08.05 (2:10 am)   [edit]
Current Time: 8:09 AM

I haven't posted a blog in a longgg time (mostly because I've been busy with SIA, which was flippin' SWEET!). I learned so many new things about music through music theory and music history, and playing more advanced music. It was such a rewarding feeling to be able to play music so much more difficult than what I was used to, and to play it well! I was also able to meet a lot of cool and talented people, in all of the categories (music, visual art, dance, drama, and creative writing). It was a lot of work and it wasn't that great having to go to bed and wake up early, but it was so worth it.

I'm at my dad's right now, and I will be staying here until school starts in September. It's hard to believe I'm going to be an 8th grader, at the top of the totem pole once again! And then after that... HIGH SCHOOL! Wow, time flies by so fast!

It's also hard to believe I've been using tBLOG for over a year now. Of course, I haven't been using it a whole lot, maybe a few blogs a month, but still. It's pretty cool.

That about wraps it up for me now...

Water Country, USA
07.02.05 (6:54 am)   [edit]
Current Time: 12:16 PM

Yesterday, I went to Water Country for the first time with my friend. I had a lot of fun, and I got a season pass (which is actually cheaper than going twice!). Even though I used sunblock, I was there for about 6 hours and in water so I guess it wore off. I ended up getting sunburnt on my chest, shoulders, upper back, and some of my face :( The only part that really hurts though are my shoulders. I hope it heals soon!

First Week at SIA
07.02.05 (6:50 am)   [edit]
Current Time: 12:12 PM

On Monday I started the Summer Institute for the Arts. The first week (which ended on Thursday) was cool and fun, I made some friends since I didn't know anyone there except one person (who wasn't really a friend). I'm doing pretty well in all my classes, which are music theory, music history, strings technique (where I actually play my instrument with the other strings) and large ensemble (which has band and orchestra playing together). I'm really enjoying it and I'm glad I got in!

Four More Days of Freedom
06.23.05 (5:44 am)   [edit]
Current Time: 10:51 AM

In four days- on the 27th- I start the Summer Institute for the Arts. Then for the next 6 weeks after that I'll be going, just as if I was in school. I don't regret auditioning, I'm pretty sure it'll be a lot of fun... but then I only have 3 more weeks once it is finished until school starts. Also, I'm going to be busier. I'm trying to get my mom to let me take dance classes, and I'll be doing volunteer work. I'm hoping to continue this not only through the summer, but through the school year.

SCHOOL IS OUT!
06.17.05 (8:24 am)   [edit]
Current Time: 1:34 PM

Yesterday was my last day of school, and it was great.. once it was over. The whole day all we did in each class was sit there waiting for the hours to pass. It was so incredibly boring!

But, the summer has begun. Today I'm going to my dad's and will stay there a week, coming back when the SIA class starts. It's gonna be a flippin awesome summer. :D

Results from the SIA Audition
05.26.05 (12:41 pm)   [edit]
Current Time: 5:05 PM

I got my letter from the people today with the results of my audition. People have kept telling me not to be discouraged if I don't get in, how it's so hard for 7th graders to get in since they're competing against high schoolers, and to always try again next year.

Well, guess what...

I GOT IN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!! :D :D :D

Just A-Waitin' Here!
05.25.05 (2:28 pm)   [edit]
Current Time: 6:48 PM

I still haven't gotten the letter from the Summer Institute people about whether I got in or not. My friend, who also auditioned, got hers like a week ago! :x I don't know what's taking so long but I'm getting very impatient!!

I'm also waiting for school to end. My last day is June 16, so I've got less than a month to wait! Woohoo!

The School Dance
05.12.05 (3:13 pm)   [edit]
Current Time: 7:36 PM

Today, after school, was the school dance. My friend Jackie was the only one of us (me, Yazmeen, Alissya, Jazmine, Meaghen, Courtney, Julia, and other people I know) who had a boyfriend there at the dance with her. If I look into the other peoples more maybe even the only one with a boyfriend. So we were trying to get her to dance with her boyfriend, Jerimiah, because she had been saying she was hoping for a slow song to dance with him to. With the financial aid of Yazmeen, Alissya, and Jazmine, we got the money to have her take a picture with Jerimiah, but we had to pretty much force her to. Poor Jerry, he was quiet and patient and willing the whole time. I don't think I heard him say a word the whole 2 hours of the dance! He just calmly followed Jackie around like a puppy as we argued with Jackie to try and get her the confidence to dance with him. At the end of the dance, there were two slow songs, but she still refused to dance with him because she was too shy. I thought it was silly to be shy of her own boyfriend, and he obviously wanted to dance with her (but didn't want to force her to do anything she didn't want to) but she still didn't dance. After the dance, while we were waiting to be dismissed to our after-school buses, she said she wished she would've danced with him. And since it's so late in the year, there won't be any more school dances for the school year. Oh well. Of course, she's mad, but has sort of forgiven me for trying to get her to dance with him. There's always next year...

Audition
05.02.05 (4:08 pm)   [edit]
Current Time: 8:26 PM

Today was the SIA audition. I played my practiced piece pretty well, and trust myself with the interview and music theory test, but messed up on the sight reading selection. I was so nervous I also messed up the major scales!

Also, on other matters... I haven't been on much because I've been so busy. With the algebra SOL next Wednesday and 4 different performances this month for orchestra, I've been very busy. Not to mention all the projects in civics. So I might be rarely seen around the end of the school year, but in the summer I'll most likely be more active.

Summer Institute for the Arts
03.26.05 (4:19 am)   [edit]
Current Time: 8:19 AM

Today is the first day of spring break, the first day off school. I'm happy, but tired (see the time). This post will be about the Summer Institute for the Arts, a summer program I've applied to and am going to audition for.

The Summer Institute for the Arts is a 6-week summer program, Monday-Thursday, 8 AM-3 PM. It will be held at one of the local high schools. It starts in late June and ends in early August. It's for 7th-11th graders. I could have applied for one of the following five arts categories: Visual Art, Dance, Drama, Creative Writing, or Music (I'm going to try and get in for music). I also have to audition and be accepted. The auditions are in late April. For the music audition, I have to wear business attire or dress nicely. I'll have to perform a solo piece and sight read music, and I'll also have to take a music theory test (just for placement, if I get in, it won't count against me). I also have to be interviewed. I'm going to go into it for my cello skills, though they offer (in the category of music): guitar, percussion, strings, woodwind, and vocal.

They teach many things like music history, music theory, keyboard skills (they said no matter what instrument you play, you should know how to play some piano/keyboard), and a lot of other things related to music that I forgot. They also have recitals and one final mandatory recital during the program. This applies to all categories, including Visual Art and Creative Writing (this can include exhibits). They do have one field trip, which is to the Kennedy Center in Washington, D.C. It's to see the musical, based on the movie, Hairspray. The cost of the field trip is included in the cost of the entire program, which is $80.

It will be a great experience. I hope I get in!

A friend unmasked
03.24.05 (1:20 pm)   [edit]
Current Time: 5:33 PM

Ok. There is this guy. He's in my classes, he lives walking distance away, blah blah blah. Me and him are always fighting and bickering with each other, that's just what we do. Yesterday, during science class (it was like a "free" period, where our science teacher gave us these sites to go to and they had games that would teach us about the plant kingdom or whatever) this guy and I were playing a 2-player game against each other. We're both intelligent, straight-A students, but I won anyway. Of course, I threw it in his face and he complained that he only lost because he didn't study.

When we nitpick at each other, neither of us take it very seriously. He's always teasing me and I'm always reminding him that I'm better than him at pretty much everything. No big deal.

Anyway, I was saying how he's always mean to me, and then he turned it around and said I was the one always being mean to him. Which is true, to an extent. But what he said next came to a shock:
"Let's forget everything mean we've ever said and done to each other and become good friends."

At first, I couldn't believe it. I've always said what a butthead he is and how he's constantly being annoying, but I guess deeper down we sort of were friends. Oh, not like tell-each-other-secrets-s it-together-pass-notes-in -class type of friends. Just someone you can chit chat with (as long as we could stand each other) and playfully joke with. Anyway, I reluctantly agreed (I wasn't sure if I could still pick at him if we became "friends") and I guess you could say we were forcefully friends.

We then began fighting for pretty much no reason, I whacked him gently with my lunchbox (the game at the computer had been near the end of class, and science is our last class, so it was at the end of the day near dismissal) and he picked up a science book and pretended to throw it at my face. However, I turned my head at just the wrong time and the book hit me at the top side of my nose, close to my eye. It didn't bleed or bruise or anything, and stopped hurting a short while after. He apologized and I knew it was an accident. But once he found out I was ok, he burst out laughing. I didn't think it was very fun, though. Oh well, I wasn't mad at him but pretended to hate him until his bus was called.

Today, things were different. Our schedule was a little different so we had science at the beginning of the day. He sat next to me so we could bother each other up close. Of course, things went smoothly. Good times.

Current Time: 6:02 PM

I'm happy to say I no longer like Andrew. Woo hoo! :D Anyway, Friday is my last day before spring break. I've worked very hard since Christmas break just to be rewarded with spring break. It's shorter, but the weather will be nicer so I can go outside and enjoy not being in school. Yay :)

I've also created my own site on Yahoo Geocites. I'll be putting a link to it in the link bar shortly.

Update on District Festival
03.16.05 (12:43 pm)   [edit]
Current Time: 4:55 PM

The Orchestra District Festival (which is different than the All-City Festival) was on March 5th. My school got scored a "1 - Superior" which is the highest possible score! :D All that hard work finally was worth something ^_^ I'm so happy!
